About Forty40 Racing

About the Company

How Forty40 Started

Forty40 Racing was created by friends Jez Banks, Dan Perry and Paul Brady with the mission to make the club racing scene in the UK more accessible and affordable.

Looking to race in the GAZ Shocks 116 Trophy, we were frustrated by the lack of professionally run budget arrive & drive options in entry level club motorsport. As a result, we decided to build our own car. This experience made us realise that there must be many other racers facing the same difficulty and this is how Forty40 Racing was born.

How It Works

The premise is simple: bring a professionally run and managed team environment to entry level club motorsport at a sensible price. We started to market the service in November 2019, offering the first customers a fixed price package for 2020 to include all five 116 Trophy endurance events.

Each car is built to the highest specification. It has dedicated race support and includes two-way pit-to-car communication and advanced data loggers. We can also offer extra services such as driver coaching where required.

The Cars

The cars you can race are race-prepared BMW 116i 5-door rear-wheel-drive vehicles built between 2004 and 2005. All cars are built to series regulations which govern upgrades and components that must be used.

Frequently Asked Questions

What services does Forty40 offer?

There are three types of event that you can hire our cars for. These are:

  • Track Days,
  • Corporate Events,
  • Arrive and Drive Endurance Racing Series or Race Entry.

Each service is tailored to your individual needs so contact us for a quote if you are interested in any of these services.

What is endurance racing?

Endurance racing in the 116 Trophy takes place over 90 minutes, with two mandatory driver changes.
This makes the series ideal for two or three drivers to share a single car, which not only keeps costs down but means drivers must work for the team as well as themselves.
Organisers are looking to expand race distances to two- and three-hour races in2021.

What race series does Forty40 compete in?

Currently, we compete in the Gaz Shocks 116 Trophy governed by Club 750 Motorsport. This is the only entry-level competition to use performance oriented RWD cars.

New for 2021, Forty40 racing will be entering the multi-class Roadsports series. See this news article for more details on what you could be driving if you want to drive in this series.

How many cars are on the grid?

At least 25 cars are expected to take part in each round of the Gaz Shocks 116 Trophy in 2021. More than 40 cars eligible for the series have been built which means the 116 Trophy will be in high demand.

What do I need if I want to hire the cars?

You do not need a special driving license or equipment if you want to hire our cars for corporate or private track days that are not part of official racing events.

What do I need if I want to race the cars?

To race in the 116 Trophy series, you will need the following:

  • An ARDS license
  • A crash helmet with HANS device

If you drive with Forty40 Racing we will take care of the rest, including logistics, consumables and fees.

What circuits will I be driving at?

You can choose to race with us for a single event or for the entire season. The 116 Trophy usually takes place at five of the following circuits:

  • Silverstone
  • Brands Hatch
  • Cadwell Park
  • Oulton Park
  • Snetterton
  • Donington Park
  • Anglesea Island
  • Mallory Park
  • Castle Combe

Previous years have also included races at prestigious European tracks such as Spa-Francorchamps. For more details and the 2021 calendar, please check our news page, or 750mc.co.uk.

What does it all cost?

At Forty40, we tailor each experience to the individual. Therefore offering an exact quote is not possible without knowing exactly what you want. However, we are confident that you will get the best value for money on all of the services we offer.

The cost for a season of 116 Gaz Shocks racing compares favourably with the cost for a season of Karting. However, your races will be at Silverstone and Brands Hatch, not Rye House or Tilbury. Furthermore, the strict rules of competition that Club 750 imposes means that nobody is able to "pay-to-win" by buying upgraded equipment. It also means that your season costs are fixed and will not go up during the year.

Please contact us with your requirements and we will respond with a price for your racing experience.
