Testing on Friday saw our car 77 have a huge off and contact with the barrier which resulted in a withdrawal from the event. All other cars made decent progress abd we worked overnight to make sone set up changes to help performance.
Saturday dawned grey and wet for qualifying but the team reset and went out in a positive mood. Despite the conditions and the relatively low experience of the drivers in this class Chris Warburton qualified 6th in car 42 with the three driver team in the Strongflex.eu car led by Tom Lawrie-Fussey starting in a very respectable 14th. Toby Partridge had a difficult quali and started 18th with VMS Racing starting 22nd in the Race Car Radios UK liveried car 41.
Sunday brought a return to dry weather and as racing got underway Chris immediately put pressure on the cars ahead of him. Car 40 had contact early on and dropped down the order with Toby also making ground.
A red flag at the halfway point meant a restart and an aggregated result. Chris and Toby both flew in the second half, posting lap times very close to the circuit record.
Chris brought car 42 home in first place with Toby arriving home in an excellent 7th spot.
What’s more Chris joins our own Conan Motorsport’s Mark Burton in the small club of drivers who have won on their series debut.
As a team we would like to thank all our mechanics, admin staff, workshop staff and of course drivers. If you want to get racing in the 116 Trophy in a car that can win, either as an arrive and drive entrant or in a car built for you, get in touch.
